South West District steps up fight against dengue as cases go up
SINGAPORE : The fight against dengue is heating up in the South West District as the number of cases went up after a sharp decline in 2008.
In 2008, there were 810 dengue cases, almost half of the 1,550 cases in the previous year.
But this downward trend did not last and last year, the number went up to 860 cases……..
“I think this can really be prevented if residents are vigilant and take steps to ensure there are no mosquito breeding places.”
“Battling dengue is just going to get harder as the warmer weather approaches in the months of May, June and July. During this period, the Aedes mosquitoes can carry more virus. It also takes a shorter time for the mosquito eggs to develop into adult mosquitoes.”
